08/12/09 Repeated mandatory inspection of overseas API facilities should be performed to prevent falsified products entering the EU. - Article

This is according to the EU Parliament's ITRE committee which has published proposed amendments to the draft directive. The European Commission (EC) excluded overseas mandatory inspections from the draft because they would be too expensive. However, this was based on a figure that Chris Oldenhof, president of the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients Committee (APIC) and EFCG Board member, described as "entirely absurd".
